12-month average rate of change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 3.7%
In April 2025, the Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded a 12-month average rate of change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 3.7%, the same value as observed in the previous month. The underlying inflation indicator, which excludes unprocessed food and energy products also remained stable at 4.0%.
The prices of goods rose by 2.3%, while services experienced a more pronounced increase of 5.6%.
The largest positive changes were recorded in the “Restaurants and Hotels” class (10.2%), “Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels” (4.9%), and “Communications” (4.6%). Conversely, the “Clothing and Footwear” class was the only one to show a negative change, at -0.1%.
At the national level, the 12-month average CPI rate of change was 2.4%, remaining unchanged from the previous month.
Year-on-year, that is, comparing April 2025 with the same month of 2024, the rate of change in prices was 3.6% in the Region (compared to 2.1% nationally), representing an increase of 0.1 percentage points from the previous month.
On a monthly basis, in April 2025, prices increased by 2.1% (1.0% in the previous month). Nationally, the change was 0.7% (1.4% in the preceding month).
In April 2025, the average housing rent per square meter of floor area in the Region showed a change of 0.4% compared to the previous month and 7.5% compared to the same month last year (0.9% and 7.5% in the previous month, respectively).
