In December 2024
Confidence indicators decreased in the Manufacturing Industry, Construction and Public Works, Trade, and Services sectors
According to data collected by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) through Qualitative Business Surveys (QBS), confidence indicators in December 2024 showed a decrease across all four assessed sectors (Manufacturing Industry, Construction and Public Works, Trade, and Services) compared to the previous month.
The confidence indicator for the Manufacturing Industry decreased in both November and December, following an increase in October. This evolution of the indicator was due to negative contributions from opinions regarding the evolution of overall demand, although positive contributions were observed from production prospects and assessments related to finished goods stocks. The balance of expectations regarding selling prices decreased, after increasing from September to November.
In the Construction and Public Works sector, the indicator dropped in November and December, reversing the upward trend observed in September and October. This recent evolution reflected the negative contributions from assessments of the order book and employment prospects. However, the balance of price expectations for the company in the upcoming three months increased in both November and December, after declining in October.
In the Trade sector, the confidence indicator fell in December, after rising in November. The evolution of the indicator in December was driven by negative contributions from sales volume, assessments of business activity prospects, and stock volume. The balance of expectations for future price changes increased in both November and December, after a decrease in October.
In the Services sector, the indicator declined from July to December, counteracting the upward trend that began in January. This evolution of the indicator was due to negative contributions from opinions on the past evolution of the order book and assessments of business activity, insufficiently offset by positive contributions from demand evolution prospects. The balance of service price expectations increased in both November and December, after a decrease between July and October.
