In January 2025,
Confidence indicators in the Manufacturing Industry, Construction and Public Works, and Trade sectors increased, while a decrease was observed in the Services sector
According to information collected by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) through Qualitative Business Surveys (QBS), it is observed that, in January 2025, confidence indicators in the sectors of Manufacturing Industry, Construction and Public Works, and Trade increased compared to the previous month, while in Services, there was a decrease.
The confidence indicator for the Manufacturing Industry increased in January, after having decreased in the two preceding months. This evolution of the indicator was due to the positive contribution of opinions regarding the evolution of overall demand and assessments related to finished goods stocks, while production prospects contributed negatively. The balance of expectations regarding selling prices decreased in December and January, while a decrease was observed in the Services sector.
In the Construction and Public Works sector, the indicator increased in January, after decreasing in November and December. This recent evolution reflected the positive contribution from assessments of the order book and employment prospects. The balance of price expectations for the upcoming three months increased from November to January, following a decrease in October.
In the Trade sector, the confidence indicator rose in January, after decreasing in December. The evolution of the indicator in December resulted from the positive contribution of sales volume and stock levels, although assessments of business activity prospects contributed negatively. The balance of expectations for future price changes increased from November to January, after decreasing in October.
In the Services sector, the indicator declined from July to January, counteracting the upward trend in the previous six months. This evolution of the indicator was due to the negative contributions from opinions on the past evolution of the order book, assessments of business activity, and prospects regarding the evolution of demand. The balance of service price expectations increased from November to January, after decreasing between July and October.
