In August 2025
Confidence indicators in Manufacturing, Trade and Services decreased, while an increase was recorded in Construction and Public Works
According to information collected by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) through the Qualitative Business Surveys (QBS), it was observed that, in August 2025, confidence indicators in the Manufacturing, Trade and Services sectors declined compared with the previous month, whereas in Construction and Public Works, an increase was recorded.
The confidence indicator for Manufacturing decreased in August, following an increase in July. This development was attributable to the negative contribution of opinions regarding global demand, assessments of product stocks, and production expectations. The balance of expectations concerning selling prices declined in August, after having stabilised in the preceding month.
In Construction and Public Works, the confidence indicator increased in June, July, and August, after a decrease in May. The most recent evolution reflected the positive contribution of assessments regarding order books and employment expectations. The balance of expectations concerning the prices to be charged by the enterprise over the next three months decreased in August, after an increase in July.
In Trade, the confidence indicator declined in August, after having increased in the previous month. The evolution in August resulted from the negative contribution of all components: sales volume, stock levels and assessments of the company’s activity expectations. The balance of expectations regarding the future development of prices increased in August, after having decreased over the preceding three months.
In Services, the indicator declined in July and August, following increases in the previous five months. The evolution of the indicator resulted from the negative contribution of all components: expectations regarding the future development of demand, opinions on the past development of order books, and assessments of the company’s activity. The balance of expectations concerning the future development of demand decreased in July and August, after having stabilised in June.
