All confidence indicators decreased compared with the previous month

According to information collected by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) through the Qualitative Business Surveys (IQC), it is observed that, in August 2026, all confidence indicators decreased compared with the previous month.

The Manufacturing Industry confidence indicator decreased in August, after having increased consecutively over the last four months. This trend was due to the negative contribution of all components: production expectations, opinions on the evolution of overall demand, and assessments relating to stocks of finished products. The balance of expectations regarding selling prices increased in July and August, after having decreased in June.

The Construction and Public Works confidence indicator decreased in August, after having increased in July. The trend in the last month reflected the negative contribution of the order book and employment expectations. The balance of expectations regarding prices to be charged by the enterprise over the next three months decreased slightly in August, after remaining stable in July.

The Trade confidence indicator decreased in August, after rising in July. The trend of the indicator in August resulted from the negative contribution of all components: assessments of the enterprise's activity outlook, the volume of stocks and the volume of sales. The balance of expectations regarding the future evolution of prices increased in August, after having decreased between May and July.

In Services, the indicator fell in July and August, after having increased throughout the first half of the year. The trend of the indicator resulted from the positive contribution of opinions on the past evolution of the order book and assessments of the enterprise’s activity, while expectations regarding the future evolution of demand contributed negatively. The balance of expectations regarding the future evolution of demand decreased in June, July, and August, after having increased over the previous six months.
