Passenger traffic at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased by 8.8% year-on-year
According to information provided by ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal to the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), a total of 453.6 thousand passengers were recorded at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), in June 2024, transported on 3,000 aircraft (commercial flights). These figures represent year-on-year increases of 8.8% and 5.6%, respectively.
In the first half of 2024, aircraft movements and passenger traffic saw changes of -0.3% and +4.2%, respectively.
On average, each aircraft (considering both landings and take-offs) transported approximately 156 passengers at Madeira Airport (compared to 153 in June 2023), while at Porto Santo Airport, this figure achieved 107 passengers (up from 99 in the same month last year).

In June 2024, passenger movement at airports in the Autonomous Region of Madeira grew by 9.8% in international traffic and 7.7% in the domestic segment.
At Madeira Airport, international traffic accounted for 54.3% of the total, compared to 45.7% for domestic traffic. At Porto Santo Airport, domestic traffic predominated more significantly, comprising 84.5% of the total, with a greater disparity compared to May 2024.
During this reference month, regular flights at the ARM airports accounted for 93.2% of the total aircraft movements and 94.9% of passengers (89.9% and 91.5% in the same period last year, respectively).
In June 2024, the occupancy of aircraft movements at the ARM airports was around 88.6%, with Madeira Airport reaching 89.2% and Porto Santo Airport at 81.1%. In the same period of the previous year, the occupancy rate was lower, at 86.4%, 87.6%, and 75.3%, in that order.
From January to June 2024, the number of passengers embarking and disembarking at RAM airports totalled 2,400.2 thousand. This figure includes both domestic and international traffic, with 47.6% corresponding to flights solely between airports within national territory (including domestic connections) and 52.4% to international traffic. Within the international category, the United Kingdom was the primary country of origin and destination for international flights at the ARM airports (29.2%), followed by Germany (20.6%) and France (8.5%).
