Madeira’s Hotel Industry registered a 14.1% year-on-year increase in total revenue, while the overnight stays went up by 7.3%

Initial estimates for July 2016 show increases in the tourism indicators with positive year-on-year rates of change in overnight stays (+7.3%), total revenue (+14.1%) and lodging revenue (+18.1%).

At the country level, the rates of change stood at 7.0% in nights spent, 16.8% in total revenue and 17.5% in revenue from accommodation.

Looking at the data broken down by market, it should be highlighted that the year-on-year change rates in nights spent by the Portuguese and foreign tourists were +7.5% and +7.3%, respectively. The German market grew by 22.2% and the British market rose by 9.4%.

In the first seven months of 2016, the overnight stays increased by 10.5% when compared to the same period of 2015, while the growth in total revenue (+16.5%) and lodging revenue (+19.0%) was more pronounced.

The net bed occupancy rate in the reference month reached 83.9%, up by 6.3 percentage points from the year before and the highest among the seven NUTS2 Portuguese regions.

The average income per room (RevPAR) recorded a year-on-year change rate of +18.0%, increasing to € 59.66.
