Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira celebrates the European Statistics Day with the release of the “Statistical Atlas of the Autonomous Region of Madeira”
Today, October 20th, is the European Statistics Day. To mark the occasion, the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) releases a new publication - the “Statistical Atlas of the Autonomous Region of Madeira”. The goal of this publication is to use visually appealing charts and graphs to facilitate the users' understanding of the most relevant indicators in each thematic area. It should be noted that these indicators are integrated in the various publications made available by DREM for each statistical domain.
The Atlas is a new instrument for the promotion of statistical literacy, allowing users to draw new conclusions about the socio-economic reality of the Region, whether looking at the particularities by municipality, when the information at this level is available, or to where the Autonomous Region of Madeira stands compared to the other regions of the country.
The first edition of the Atlas is dedicated to Demography and Mortality. However, DREM plans to extend this type of analysis also to other areas. Demographic information refers to the year 2018 and includes indicators concerning the resident population, birth, fertility, marriage and divorce, among others. The mortality chapter, with data for 2017, focuses mainly on the various causes of death.
DREM is already working on the next chapter of the Atlas, which will be dedicated to Education, which is due to be released early next year.
