DREM updates the time series on social protection with data for 2014
In the end of 2014, there were 67.5 thousand Social Security pensioners in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, corresponding to a quarter of the resident population. From that total, 59.9% received old age pensions, 27.9% survival pensions and 12.2% disability pensions. Compared to 2013, the number of pensioners decreased by 0.7%, as a result of the drop in the number of recipients of old age (-0.7%), disability (-1.0%) and survival pensions (-0.5%).
The annual mean value paid to pensioners increased by 0.7% between 2013 and 2014. In this year, the mean paid value in old-age pensions stood at 5,075 euros, above the average value from disability (4,811 euros) and survival pensions (2,578 euros).
The total value paid reached 301.8 million euros, +0.4% than in the previous year. 13.3% of this total was destined for disability pensions (40.3 million euros), 70.0% for old age pensions (211.2 million euros) and 16.7% to survival pensions (50.3 million euros).
15.6 thousand persons were recipients of the unemployment benefit, down by 9.6% from 2013. 57.3% of the recipients were male and 4.0% were under than 25 years. The 30-39 years age group had the highest share (27.9%).
The average duration of the unemployment benefit was 234 days, down by 10 days from 2013. The average value of this type of benefit was 3,643 euros, a 7.3% decrease over the previous year.
The number of recipients of the child allowances dropped by 2.0% while the number of recipients of allowances for assistance by a third party decreased by 4.6%.
7.0 thousand persons (-9.3% than in 2013), of which 50.1% females, benefited from social integration income. 44.0% of the recipients were under 25 years.
The recipients of sickness benefits rose by 7.6% between 2013 and 2014, reaching a total of 8.8 thousands in the latter year. The mean number of days subsidized stood at 76 days, down by two from the previous year. The total paid values amounted to 11.2 million euros, +2.4% than in 2013.
The number of pensioners of the Civil Service Retirement System Scheme stood at 12.3 thousand, up by 4.3% from the end of 2013.
