DREM updates the time series on social protection with data for 2015 

1.Social Security

In the end of 2015, there were 67.4 thousand Social Security pensioners in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, corresponding to roughly 25% of the resident population. From that total, 60.2% received old age pensions, 27.8% survival pensions and 12.0% disability pensions. Compared to 2014, the number of pensioners decreased by 0.3%, as a result of the drop in the number of recipients of disability (-2.1%) and survival pensions (-0.5%).

The annual mean  value paid to pensioners increased by 1.5% between 2014 and 2015. In this year, the mean paid value in old-age pensions stood at 5,129 euros, above the average value of disability (4,948 euros) and survival pensions (2,640 euros).

The total value paid reached 305.5 million euros, up by 1.2% over the previous year. Of this total, 13.3% was destined for disability pensions (40.5 million euros), 70.0% for old age pensions (213.7 million euros) and 16.8% to survival pensions (51.3 million euros). The three types of pensions registered a year-on-year increase.

14.7 thousand persons were recipients of the unemployment benefit, down by 6.0% from 2014. 56.7% of the recipients were male and 4.6% were under than 25 years. The 40-49 years age group had the highest share (27.2%).

The average duration of the unemployment benefit was 214 days, down by 20 days from 2014. The average value of this type of benefit was 3,278 euros, a 10.0% decrease over the previous year.

The number of recipients of the child allowances dropped by 3.0% while the number of recipients of allowances for assistance by a third party decreased by 2.0%.

6.7 thousand persons (down by 5.3% from 2014), of which 50.2% females, benefited from social integration income. 42.7% of the recipients were under 25 years.

The recipients of sickness benefits rose by 6.1% between 2014 and 2015, reaching a total of 9.3 thousands in the latter year. The mean number of days subsidised stood at 80 days, down by four from the previous year. The total paid values amounted to 12.5 million euros,  up by 11.6% from 2014.

 2. Civil Service Retirement System Scheme

In the end of 2015, the number of pensioners of the Civil Service Retirement System Scheme stood at 12.5 thousand (70.6% of which were recipients of disability and old age pensions), a 1.0% increase over from the end of 2014.
