DREM releases more data concerning the final results of the Census 2021

As mentioned in the release last November 23^rd, in which the main final results of the Census 2021 were presented, the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) has scheduled the dissemination of several products related to the largest statistical operation carried out in the country and in the region, over the coming weeks.

DREM makes available today an analysis ("Em Foco") of over 30 pages covering topics such as population and territory, marital status and conjugal relationship, disabilities, birthplace and nationality, level of education, employment, households and housing stock, based on information from the Census 2021. A set of 30 tables, most of which with information at a parish level, will also be available to accompany this release, as well as an update of the time series.

The main highlights of each section of the Census 2021 "Em Foco" are the following:

• Population and Territory - Average age of the resident population in the Region was 44.4 years, 1 year lower than in the country;
• Marital status and Conjugal relationship - Percentage of married persons decreased, contrary to single, widowed and divorced persons;
• Disabilities - More than a fifth of the elderly population had disabilities or great difficulty in walking or climbing steps;
• Birthplace and Nationality - More than a third of the persons of Portuguese nationality who lived in Venezuela and are now in Madeira arrived after 2010;
• Level of education - 62.9% of the persons with tertiary education level are women;
• Employment - Caniço and Ribeira da Janela in the extremes of the activity rate;
• Households - 10.3 thousand elderly persons lived alone;
• Housing stock- Almost half of the owners had a house monthly cost of more than 350 euros.
