In 2016
Number of physicians, pharmacists and nurses increased
The number of physicians registered in the Guild at December 31st of 2016 was 968, up by 5.9% when compared to the corresponding day of 2015 (941 physicians at 31/12/2015). Of that total 55.7% (539) were specialists. The number of physicians per 1,000 inhabitants maintained an upward trend, rising from 3.6 in 2015 to 3.8 in 2016.
In 2016, 2,148 nurses were registered in the Guild (an increase of 3.1%), which corresponded to 8.4 nurses per 1,000 habitants (8.1 in the previous year).
In 2016, the number of pharmacists was 229 (an increase of 14 pharmacists over 2015).
The data made available now will be included in the publication, "Health Statistics of the Autonomous Region of Madeira - 2016," which will be released in December 2017.
