Maximum air temperature reached 33.0 °C at the Prazeres station
The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) releases today the summary of the main meteorological data for July 2026, simultaneously updating the corresponding Dashboard. This information¹ is provided by the Delegation of the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere, I.P. (IPMA I.P.), in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM).
Air temperature
In July, the highest mean air temperature was recorded at the Porto Moniz station (23.9 °C), while the lowest occurred at the Chão do Areeiro station (16.7 °C).
Compared with the climatological normal² for July, all weather stations with information available for this analysis recorded mean temperatures above their respective reference values. The largest positive deviation was observed at the Santo da Serra station, where the mean temperature (18.6 °C) was 1.8 °C above the corresponding climatological normal.
As for extreme air temperatures, the absolute maximum temperature was recorded at the Prazeres station (33.0 °C), on day 4, while the absolute minimum temperature occurred at the Pico do Areeiro (CFM) station, at 5.7 °C, on day 11.
Precipitation
In July, the highest total precipitation was recorded at the Santana meteorological station, with 15.2 mm. In contrast, the Funchal/Observatory, Funchal/Lido, Lugar de Baixo and Selvagem Grande stations recorded no precipitation at all.
Compared with the climatological normal² for July, all meteorological stations with information available for this analysis recorded total precipitation below their respective reference values. The largest negative deviation was observed at the Santo da Serra station, where precipitation was 21.7 mm below the climatological normal.
Regarding the number of days with precipitation, the Santo da Serra station recorded the highest value for the threshold of 0.1 mm or more, with 13 days, also standing out for the 1.0 mm threshold, with 4 days.
None of the meteorological stations analysed recorded days with precipitation equal to or above 10.0 mm and, consequently, no days with precipitation equal to or above 20.0 mm or 30.0 mm occurred either.
Relative humidity
In July, mean monthly relative air humidity ranged from 46%, at the Pico do Areeiro station, to 90%, at the Santo da Serra station. The minimum daily value (2%) was recorded at the Pico do Areeiro station, on day 1, while the maximum value (100%) was reached at 10 meteorological stations, on different days of the month.
Wind
In July, among the meteorological stations with wind information available, the highest mean intensity was recorded at the Selvagem Grande station, with 22.4 km/h, while the lowest occurred at the Monte station, with 3.3 km/h. The maximum wind gust (91 km/h) was recorded at the Santa Catarina/Aeroporto station, on day 1.
Sunshine
In July, the Porto Santo/Aeroporto station recorded 306.4 hours of bright sunshine, followed by Santa Catarina/Aeroporto, with 265.5 hours, and Funchal/Observatory, with 219.3 hours.
Sea water
In July, the mean sea water temperature, measured at the Molhe da Pontinha (Funchal), was 22.6 °C. The mean daily temperature ranged between 21.5 °C, recorded on day 3, and 23.5 °C, observed on days 18, 26, 27 and 28.
