In the 3rd quarter of 2014
Passenger movements in the airports of Madeira and Porto Santo increased compared to the corresponding period of 2013; goods unloaded in the regional seaports decreased
According to the data compiled by DREM, passenger transport by bus decreased by 1.5% year-on-year in the reference period. Between January and September of 2014 13.0 million passengers were counted in the urban lines (year-on year change rate of +2.2%) and 6.0 million in the intercity lines (+2.3%).
In air transport, the airports of Madeira and Porto Santo recorded a movement of 812.5 thousand passengers during the 3rd quarter of 2014, a 0.9% increase compared to the same period of 2013.
In sea transport, the Ports authority counted one more cruise ship in the seaport of Funchal in the 3rd quarter of 2014 (total of 16 of this type of vessels) than in the same quarter of the previous year. However, the number of transit passengers decreased by 13.9%. The seaport of Funchal received a total of 268,391 transit passengers, the majority of them (91.7%) Europeans. Between January and September of 2014, there were more Germans visiting Madeira during the reference period (111,226, year-on-year change rate of +32.3%), but fewer British (86,104;-16.2%) and Americans (10,756; -27,6%).
Regarding the movement of goods in Madeira's ports, the statistics for the 3rd quarter of 2014 show a negative trend vis-a-vis the same period of 2013 for both the unloaded (-4.6%) and loaded goods (-1.0%).
