Passenger traffic at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) reached a new high of 5.7 million passengers, surpassing the previous year’s record
According to information provided by ANA – Airports of Portugal to the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), in December 2025, passenger traffic at ARM airports totalled 383.7 thousand passengers, transported on 2 857 aircraft (commercial flights), corresponding to year-on-year changes of +1.7% and -2.0%, respectively.
Considering the whole of 2025 and both regional airports, aircraft movements amounted to 38 742, while the number of passengers stood at around 5.7 million, representing year-on-year increases of +12.1% and +11.8%, respectively.
In 2025, Madeira Airport recorded increases both in aircraft movements (35.9 thousand; +13.0% compared with 2024) and in passenger numbers (5.4 million; +12.2%). A similar trend was observed at Porto Santo Airport, with growth in aircraft movements (2.8 thousand; +2.4% year-on-year) and in passenger traffic (256.7 thousand; +3.6%).

During this year, each aircraft (considering both landings and take-offs) carried, on average, around 150 passengers (151 in 2024) at Madeira Airport, while at Porto Santo Airport this figure reached 91 passengers (90 in 2024).
In 2025, passenger traffic at ARM airports increased by 17.4% in international traffic (3,179.3 thousand passengers) and by 5.4% in domestic traffic (2,474.1 thousand passengers).
At Madeira Airport, international traffic (58.1% of the total) predominated over domestic traffic (41.9%). At Porto Santo Airport, domestic traffic accounted for the majority (83.7% of the total), with a wider gap compared with 2024 (78.8%).
In the reference year, scheduled flights at ARM airports represented 92.5% of total aircraft movements and 94.6% of total passengers (92.1% and 94.2% in 2024, respectively).
In 2025, the aircraft load factor at ARM airports stood at around 85.2%, with Madeira Airport reaching 85.5% and Porto Santo Airport 79.3%. In the previous year, load factors were higher for the two regional airports combined (86.6%) and for Madeira Airport (87.1%), while they were lower at Porto Santo Airport (78.4%).
In 2025, the number of passengers embarked and disembarked at ARM airports (excluding transit passengers) totalled 5 636.1 thousand, of which 43.8% corresponded to traffic exclusively between airports located in national territory, including inter-island and domestic connections, and 56.2% to international traffic. Within the latter, the United Kingdom (27.1%) and Germany (21.0%) were the main countries of origin and destination of international flights at ARM airports.
