DREM releases data on golf courses and cruise ships visiting the Region
Following yesterday's release of the preliminary results for September 2022 of the Tourism Statistics, the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) publishes today the data from the Autonomous Region of Madeira golf courses and the transit passengers on cruise ships that visited the ARM, with reference to the period from January to September 2022.
Number of rounds played at the Region's golf courses recorded sharp growth of 105.4% in the first nine months of 2022
The survey on the three golf courses in the Region revealed that 47,683 rounds were carried out between January and September 2022, representing an increase of 105.4% over the same period last year. This activity generated 2.1 million euros in revenue, +105.3% than in the first nine months of 2021. Compared to the same period in 2019, the increase in the number of rounds and revenues was 2.9% and 14.0%, respectively.
Between January and September 2022, 73.8% of rounds were carried out by non-members (50.2% in the same period), mostly from Nordic countries, Germany and the United Kingdom. Hotels and similar establishments sold 44.7% of the rounds, golf courses sold 33.7% and the remaining 21.6% were sold by tour operators. In the same period, direct sales through golf courses were the most representative (49.4% of the total).
190.3 thousand cruise ship passengers visited the Autonomous Region of Madeira between January and September 2022
According to data provided by the ARM Ports Authority, in the first nine months of this year, 190,262 transit passengers were counted in the 193 cruise ships that docked at ARM ports, figures higher than the same period last year, in which only 5 stopovers were made. Compared to the same period of 2019 (pre-pandemic period), the number of ships that docked at the ports of the Region grew by 17.0% (up by 28 ships), contrary to the number of transit passengers, which went down by 45.4%.
