DREM begins to release the main demographic indicators with a monthly periodicity
Given the users’ growing interest for demographic data, the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) will release, from now on, the data of live births, deaths and marriages with a monthly periodicity, starting from the reference month of January 2023, with a time lag to the end of the month under review of about 45 days. Until now, the release of these data by DREM was made with a quarterly frequency, with a time lag of 75 days from the end of the reference month.
In January, the number of deaths increased by 3.6% compared to the same month in the previous year
In January 2023, 289 deaths were registered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), a higher number than in December 2022 (+16 deaths; +5.9%) and than in January 2022 (+10 deaths; +3.6%). No deaths under one year of age or foetal deaths were recorded in the first month of 2023.
Also in January 2023, 159 live births were registered, corresponding to an increase of 0.6% compared to January 2022 (one more birth).

In the first month of 2023, 66 marriages were celebrated, corresponding to an increase of 43.5% compared to the number of marriages celebrated in January 2022 (+20 marriages).
