Number of building permits and completed buildings increased in the Autonomous Region of Madeira compared to the previous year
In 2022, 503 buildings were licensed, up by 35 (+7.5%) when compared with the previous year (468). The number of completed buildings rose by 2.7% compared to 2021 (301), to a total of 309. In both variables, highs of the last years were recorded. Regarding building permits, the figures for 2022 were the highest since 2012 and for completed buildings since 2014.
69.6% of the licenses of construction and demolition works were for new constructions (350), 91.1% of which were destined for family housing (319). From these constructions resulted the licensing of 674 dwellings, down by 12.5% from 2021 (770).
As for the completed buildings (309), 65.0% of these buildings were new constructions for family housing (201). In 2022, the number of completed dwellings in new constructions for family housing stood at 537, increasing by 56.1% over the previous year (344).
In the 4th quarter of 2022, the number of buildings permits (109) decreased by 9.9% when compared to the same quarter of the previous year, while the number of completed buildings (94) increased by 9.3%.
