In the first half of 2022
Egg production, livestock slaughtering and poultry meat recorded a year-on-year growth, while landed catch increased in value but decreased in volume
According to information gathered by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) from industrial poultry farms in the Region, in the first six months of 2022, egg production stood at 11.2 million units, increasing by 3.8% year-on-year.
In the same period, poultry meat totalled 1,618.3 tonnes, increasing by 11.2% compared to the same period of 2021.
According to data provided by the Slaughter Centre of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (CARAM), the weight of the slaughtered livestock reached 440.1 tonnes, increasing by 6.9% year-on-year.
Regarding fisheries, the information collected from the Regional Directorate of Fisheries for the first six months of 2022, shows a decrease in volume (-7.2%, totalling about 2,976.7 tonnes) and an increase in first sale receipts (+16.4% being the half-year overall of 10.0 million euros) compared to the same period of last year.
By species, the catch of tuna and similar decreased by 26.3%, while the value of the first sale increased by 4.0%. Despite the decrease in tuna and similar catches, this species was the most abundant in the first six months of the year, representing 50.6% of the total, followed by the black scabbardfish with 39.7%. However, the catch of black scabbardfish increased both in quantity (+28.7%) and in first sale value (+40.3%).
The average price of fish calculated at the first sale for the period in question (excluding fish unloaded for self-consumption in these calculations) was 3.41 euros (2.71 euros in the same period in 2021), with the average price for tuna and similar products reaching 3.51 euros (2.50 euros in the same period last year) and 3.31 euros for black scabbardfish (3.02 euros in the first six months of the previous year).

Aquaculture data will be released next week.
