Fishery catches soared while egg production, poultry meat and livestock slaughtherings decreased when compared with the previous year
In 2014, egg production stood at 22.4 million units, decreasing by 29.4% year-on-year. This result was influenced by the need for equipment replacement by some of the production units, due to recent specific legislation.
In the reference year, poultry meat totalled 3,757.2 tonnes, dropping by 7.8% when compared to 2013.
In 2014, the weight of the slaughtered livestock declined by 16.6% over the previous year.
The data on landed catch show a very pronounced growth in 2014 (+80.1% in volume and +52.9% in first sale receipts), compared to the prior year.
This growth was mainly driven by the increase in the catch of tuna and tuna-like species (+204.4% in volume and +116.0% in value, compared to 2013). Black-scabbard fish was also more abundant during 2014 (+8.9% in volume and +17.3% in first sale receipts). The first sale average price of the landed catch stood at EUR 2.22 (EUR 2.62 in 2013).
