Withdrawals together with the purchases through automatic payment terminals registered a year-on-year increase of 2.9%
Data provided by the Interbank Services Society (SIBS) for the third quarter of 2015 show that the cash withdrawals together with the purchases through automatic payment terminals (APT) increased by 2.9% compared with the same period of the previous year (below the 4.7% increase registered in Portugal). In the aforementioned period, the rate of change of cash withdrawals was null while the purchases through ATP rose by 5.7%. In turn, the amount spent on payments had a 0.8% year-on-year (y-o-y) decrease.
International cards were used to withdraw 23.2 million Euros (1.0% y-o-y increase), while the amount of withdrawals using national cards totaled 152.2 million Euros, down by 0.1% when compared with the corresponding period of 2014.
At the country level, national withdrawals rose by 1.0% while the international withdrawals decreased by 0.9%. The y-o-y average growth in withdrawals was 0.8%.
Concerning purchases through automatic payment terminals, the year-on-year change rate for the third quarter 2015 was higher in Portugal (+8.3%) than in Madeira (+5.7%). In the region, the purchases through APT using national cards increased by 7.9% while those made using international cards dropped by 1.8%.
Between January and September 2015, the cash withdrawals together with the purchases through ATP grew by 2.9% in Madeira and by 5.1% in Portugal, vis-a-vis the same period of 2014.
