Estimated unemployment rate stood at 7.0% in the 4th quarter and in 2019
The Labour Force Survey results for the fourth quarter of 2019 indicate that the Unemployment Rate for Madeira was estimated at 7.0%, 0.1 percentage points (p.p.) higher than in the previous quarter and 1.9 p.p. lower compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
The unemployment rate for 2019 (average) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was 7.0%, dropping 1.8 percentage points (p.p.) from 2018, standing as the lowest value of the new series (which starts in 2011).
The estimate of the unemployed population in Madeira stood at 9.6 thousand persons, having recorded quarterly and year-on-year decreases of 0.5% and 21.5%.
The employed population was estimated at 128.1 thousand persons, a year-on-year increase of 3.1 thousand employed persons (+2.5%) and a 1.9 thousand decrease from the previous quarter (-1.5%).
The unemployment rate in Portugal, for the fourth quarter of 2019, stood at 6.7%, unchanged from same quarter last year and 0.6 p.p. higher than in the previous quarter. In annual terms, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.5 p.p. from 2018 to 6.5%.
