In the 1st quarter of 2022

Main fuels released for consumption increased by 25.8% year-on-year

In the 1st quarter of 2022, the main fuels released for consumption (diesel oil and gasoline) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira totalled 35.6 million litres, increasing by 25.8% compared to the same period of 2021 (28.3 million litres in the 1st quarter of 2021).

This growth reflects the easing of restrictive measures on COVID-19 in the 1st quarter of 2022, compared to the same period a year earlier.

Between January and March 2022, 25.7 million litres of the main fuel - diesel oil - were released for consumption, up by 23.8% over the same quarter of the previous year. Regarding gasoline, the demand for unleaded 95 gasoline grew by 42.2%, while the demand for unleaded 98 increased by 3.8%. The sales of these fuels were 7.7 and 2.2 million litres, respectively.

Concerning gas, the release for consumption of propane and butane in the 1st quarter of 2022 stood at 3.4 (up by 2.2% in the 1st quarter of 2021) and 1.8 thousand tonnes (up by 3.8% year-on-year), respectively. In turn, 9.6 thousand tonnes of natural gas were released for consumption in the reference period, a 67.7% increase over the year-ago quarter.

Average price of diesel in the 1st quarter of 2022 showed growth

In the 1st quarter of 2022, the mean price for diesel oil was 1.573 euros, higher than the one registered in the same period of the previous year (1.242 euros) and in the previous quarter (1.501 euros).

The mean price for unleaded 95 gasoline was 1.757 euros, higher than in the same period last year (1.451 euros) and in the 4th quarter of 2021 (1.703 euros).
