In the 1st quarter of 2018
Electricity production increased by 2.4% year-on-year
In the 1st quarter of 2018, the electricity production, estimated from the data on the distribution of electric energy provided by the Electricity Company of Madeira, increased by 2.4% year-on-year.
Breaking down the data by source it should be highlighted that, compared to in the first quarter of 2017, the electricity generated by thermal power decreased by 1.6%. This decline was compensated by the growth in production through other sources, mainly by wind power (+39.2%) and hydropower (+9.1%). Thermal power represented 58.7% of the total production in the first three months of 2018 (61.0% in the same period of last year). It should also be mentioned the production of thermal power based on natural gas represented 12.7% of the total production mix.
