In 2014
Electricity production increased 1.3% compared with the previous year
In 2014, the electricity production, estimated from the data on the distribution of electric energy provided by the Electricity Company of Madeira, increased by 1.3% compared with the previous year. This is the first increase since 2010. Breaking down the 2014 data by source it should be highlighted that the hydro and wind sources increased by 26.3% and 7.5% compared to 2013, respectively. On the opposite side, thermal power decreased by 3.7%. Still this is the main source of energy representing around 71% of the production mix of electricity.
Data for the 4rd quarter show that there is a steady tendency towards growth, since this is the fourth consecutive quarter with a year-on-year increase (+0,1%). In the first three quarters of 2014 the growth rates stood at 1.5%, 1.9% and 1.4%, respectively.
The production of thermal energy based on natural gas represented 11.8% of the total production mix.
DREM releases more data about the energy sector for the year 2013
DREM also publishes today on its website data compiled by the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG) for 2013 concerning the consumption of electric energy and the number of consumers of electric energy. The energy balance for 2013 is also available now.
