In the 1st quarter of 2015
Electricity production decreased by 0.3% year-on-year
In the 1st quarter of 2015, the electricity production, estimated from the data on the distribution of electric energy provided by the Electricity Company of Madeira, decreased by 0.3% year-on-year. Breaking down the data by source it should be highlighted that hydropower production decreased by 37.9% compared to the same period of 2014. This decline was compensated by the growth in production through other sources, mainly by thermal power, which represented roughly 2/3 of the total production in the 1st quarter of 2015 (61.5% in the same quarter of last year). It should also be mentioned that the production of thermal power based on natural gas represented 17.9% of the total production mix.
