Number of non-financial enterprises and its number of employees, turnover and Gross Value Added increased
DREM releases today on its official statistics website, a set of tables for the financial and non-financial enterprises headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, with data for the 2008-2017 period.
In 2017 there were 26,641 enterprises headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, 241 of which from the financial sector and 26,400 of the non-financial sector. The total of enterprises employed 69,652 persons, 69,260 in the non-financial sector and 392 in the financial sector.
In the reference year, the number of non-financial enterprises sector of the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased by 5.1% and the employees by 6.7%. In Portugal the growth rates were 3.6% and 5.1%, respectively.
In 2017, the turnover generated by Madeira’s enterprises stood at 4,680.5 million Euros, up by 14.5% from 2016. The Gross Value Added at market prices (GVAmp) stood at 1,505.7 million Euros, increasing by 16.2% from 2016.
By industry, the most important sector was “Accommodation and food service activities” (353.3 million euros, 23.5% of the total GVA), followed by “Trade” (250.6 million euros, 16.6% of the GVA), “Transportation and storage” (156.1 million euros, 10.4% of the GVA) and “Construction” (140.2 million euros; 9.3% of the GVA).
The number of establishments of non-financial enterprises in the Region stood at 28,048, up by 5.0% from 2016. The number of employees in those establishments was 77,391, rising by 6.0% between 2016 and 2017. The turnover reached 5.400,8 million euros, up by 11.5% from 2016.
