Number of establishments of non-financial enterprises, employees and turnover increased over 2018
The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), after having released final data for 2019 last March regarding enterprises, makes available today on its official statistics portal, the final data for the establishments of non-financial enterprises located in the Region for that same year.
With the growing preponderance of major brands, particularly in the trade sector - confirmed by the annual information of the Relevant Size Commercial Units (UCDR) project, which shows, the continuous growth of the turnover of these units in the Autonomous Region of Madeira since 2015 - information on establishments is of significant importance. It should be remembered that an enterprise, headquartered anywhere in the country, may have several establishments located in different areas of the territory. Therefore, there are establishments located in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), which belong to enterprises headquartered outside the ARM and there are also enterprises in the ARM, with establishments in the Mainland and / or in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
In 2019, there were 30,626 establishments of non-financial enterprises in the Autonomous Region of Madeira that employed 86,493 persons, having generated a turnover of 6.3 billion euros.
Compared to the preceding year, the number of establishments grew by 2.8%, with the “Information and communication activities” sector (+11.9%), the “Human health and social work activities” (+8.8%), the “Real estate activities “(+7.5%) and “Construction” (+7.0%) standing out.
The number of employees went up by 6.2% from 2018. The industries with the most pronounced growth were “Construction” (+17.2%), “Human health and social work activities” (+15.3%) and “Transportation and storage” (+14.7%).
The turnover of the establishments of non-financial companies registered an increase compared to the previous year (+8.2%), with “Mining and quarrying” (+30.3%), “Construction” (+29.2%), “Information and communication activities” (+27.2%), and “Manufacturing” (+26.4%) having the highest growth rates. It should be noted that “Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” (38.3%), “Accommodation and food service activities” (12.3%) and “Construction” (11.3%) are those which have a greater preponderance in the total turnover.
Finally, it should be noted that the values for the three variables mentioned above (number of establishments, employees and turnover) are maximums of the available series (since 2010).
