Statistics Portugal released the final results of the Regional Accounts for 2015 and the provisional results for 2016
Statistics Portugal (INE) released today the results for the Regional Accounts of 2015 (final) and 2016 (provisional).
In 2015, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) increased by 1.6% in volume, compared to 2014, below national average (1.8%). It should be noted that excluding the GDP associated to the International Business Center (IBC) of Madeira, the real growth of the GDP would have reached 2.0%. These results show that the Madeiran economy entered in a period of economic growth, which started in 2014, after three years of economic decline.
The estimated GDP for the ARM in 2016 is 4,353.4 million euros, increasing by 2.7% in value and by 0.9% in volume. The GDP of the Portuguese economy increased by 3.0% in value and by 1.5% in volume.
In 2016, the GDP per inhabitant stood at 17.0 thousand euros, below the country’s ratio (17.9 thousand euros).
In that year, the GDP per capita disparity indexes in relation to the national and EU average were 95.0 and 73.4, respectively.
