The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) releases today on its official statistics website data on public employment in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, for the 4rd quarter 2016.
These data comes from the Directorate-General for Administration and Public Employment, which releases two regular publications, SIEP (Synthesis of Public Employment Statistics) and BOEP (Bulletin of Public Employment Statistics). The latest issue of SIEP was released on the 15th February and refers to the last quarter of 2016, while BOEP has the reference date of 30th June 2016, and part of the following analysis is also based on this publication.
Public Employment in the Regional Government of Madeira dropped by 9.6% between 2011 and 2016
The provisional data show that at 31/12/2016 there were 19,300 persons working in the Regional Government of Madeira. Compared with the previous quarter this represents a slight increase of 3 persons and a decrease of 305 persons vis-à-vis the same day of 2015. At 31/12/2011 the number of persons working in the Regional Government of Madeira stood at 21,354 and this figure has tendentially decreased. The decline in public employment between the end of 2011 and the end of 2016 was 9.6%.
The balance between incomings and outgoings of workers in the Regional Government of Madeira was -393 in 2012, -440 in 2013, -517 in 2014, -399 in 2015 and -305 in 2016.
The mean age of the workers in June 2016 was 46.3 years (45.9 a year before) and 56.0% of those workers had higher education.
In October 2016, the average monthly basic salary was €1,386.9, up by 4.1% from a year ago, while the average monthly earnings stood at €1,576.9, a 3.3% increase from October 2015.
