In September 2024
Confidence indicators in the Manufacturing Industry, Trade, and Services sectors decreased, while the Construction and Public Works sector saw an increase
According to data collected by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) through Qualitative Business Surveys (QBS), it was observed that, in September 2024, confidence indicators in the Manufacturing Industry, Trade, and Services sectors declined compared to the previous month, whereas in the Construction and Public Works sector, there was an increase.
The confidence indicator for the Manufacturing Industry decreased in September, following an increase in August. This decline was driven by negative contributions from all three components: opinions on the evolution of overall demand, production prospects, and assessments related to finished goods stocks. The balance of expectations regarding selling prices increased in September, after declining in August.
In the Construction and Public Works sector, the confidence indicator increased in September, following a decrease in the previous month. This recent upward trend was due to positive contributions from both components: assessments of the order book and employment prospects. The balance of price expectations for the upcoming three months also rose in both August and September after declining in June and July.
In the Trade sector, the indicator fell in September, following an increase over the previous four months. The September decrease resulted from negative contributions across all components: business activity prospects, assessments of sales volume and stock volume. The balance of opinions on future price developments increased in August and September, following a decrease in the three previous months.
In the Services sector, the confidence indicator declined between July and September, counteracting the upward trend that began in January. This decline was primarily due to negative contributions from demand evolution prospects, which were insufficiently offset by positive contributions from opinions on the order book and business activity. The balance of service price expectations decreased between July and September after having increased in June.
