In October 2024
Confidence indicators increased in the Manufacturing Industry, Construction and Public Works, and decreased in Trade and Services
According to information collected by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) through Qualitative Business Surveys (QBS), it is observed that, in October 2024, confidence indicators increased in the sectors of the Manufacturing Industry and Construction and Public Works compared to the previous month, while confidence in Trade and Services decreased.
In the Manufacturing Industry, the confidence indicator increased in October, following a decline in September. This change was due to positive contributions from production prospects and assessments related to finished goods stocks, although opinions on the evolution of overall demand contributed negatively. The balance of expectations regarding selling prices increased in September and October, after having decreased in August.
In Construction and Public Works sectors, the indicator rose in September and October, after a decrease in the previous month. The change in the last month reflected positive contributions from assessments of the order book, while employment prospects contributed negatively. The balance of expectations for prices charged by the company in the upcoming three months decreased after rising in August and September.
In the Trade sector, the confidence indicator decreased in September and October following four consecutive months of increases. October's decline resulted from a negative contribution from sales volume, although assessments of business activity prospects and stock volume contributed positively. The balance of expectations regarding future price developments slightly decreased in October, after increasing in the previous two months.
In the Services sector, the confidence indicator declined between July and October, counteracting the upward trend that began in January. This decline was mainly due to negative contributions from opinions on the evolution of the order book and assessments of business activity, which were insufficiently offset by positive contributions from prospects regarding demand evolution. The balance regarding expectations for service prices decreased between July and October after having increased in June.
