DREM releases the Activity Report for the year 2023

The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) has released today its Activity Report for the year 2023, now available in the Organisation - Planning and Management section. This report received a favourable opinion from the Higher Council of Statistics during the plenary meeting held on July 10th.

This document has been meticulously prepared following the stipulations outlined in Regional Legislative Decree No. 27/2009/M of August 24th, including amendments introduced by Regional Legislative Decree No. 12/2015/M of December 21st). It falls within the scope of the Self-Evaluation of the SIADAP-RAM1 structure, following the guidelines of the 73th Deliberation of the Higher Council of Statistics (CSE) and the General Guidelines for Official Statistical Activity (LGAEO) 2023-2027, which encompass the strategic goals of the National Statistical System.

The current report provides a comprehensive description of the various activities carried out by DREM throughout 2023.These activities are aligned with the 2023 Business Plan, strategic goals, and with the organisation's Mission and Vision. DREM acts as the statistical authority for regional official statistics and collaborates in the production of national scope statistics under the technical and scientific oversight of Statistics Portugal (INE).

Key highlights from the 2023 report include:

  • In terms of statistical production, 2023 is notable for achieving a record response rate of 85.8% in household surveys, compared to 85.6% in 2022. Self-completion surveys aimed at both public and private entities achieved a response rate of around 94.0% (92.3% in 2022).
  • Across different response modes in household surveys, a total of 15.6 thousand interviews were conducted (15.7% in 2022), including 11.2 thousand telephone responses (CATI), 3.6 thousand face-to-face interviews (CAPI), and 0.8 thousand online responses (CAWI). Furthermore, in the domain of self-administered surveys, 62.7 thousand questionnaires were received (46.4 thousand in 2022);
  • Regarding statistical dissemination, there was also an increase in the number of newsletters sent to registered users, reaching a historical peak of 275 (248 in 2022), representing a 10.9% growth and averaging approximately 1.1 newsletter per business day of the year;
  • 99.4% of planned disseminations were successfully executed (95.0% within the expected timeframe);
  • In the media, 842 news released explicitly referred to DREM, representing an increase of 2.4% compared to 2022. The topics of Tourism, Transport and Construction emerged as the most frequently cited statistical areas;
  • Seven study visits were conducted in collaboration with various institutions, involving 108 students and 8 teachers;
  • By the end of the year, DREM had 54 employees (an increase of 4 compared to year 2022) and a budget execution of 1.8 million euros
