In the 2nd quarter 2015

The balance between formed and dissolved corporations was positive

According to the data provided to Statistics Portugal by the Directorate General of the Policy of Justice, in the 2nd quarter of 2015, the number of formed corporations headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (314) was higher than the number of dissolved corporations (144), which resulted in a positive balance between the formation and dissolution of corporations (+170). This result is largely connected to the formation of enterprises linked to the Madeira International Business Center (IBC).

Breaking down the data by economic activity we note that the most expressive positive balance was observed in “Consultancy, scientific and technical activities” (+77), “Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” (+35), “Accommodation and food service activities” (+31) and “Administrative and support service activities” (+28). “Construction” (-10), “Manufacturing” (-7) and “Financial and insurance activities” (-5) were the activities with the most pronounced negative balance.

The balance between formed and dissolved corporations in the January to June 2015 period was +300 (653 formed corporations and 353 dissolved).
