In 2020
Aviculture industry was more dynamic than in the previous year, contrary to livestock slaughterings and fisheries
In 2020, egg production has topped 19.8 million units, increasing by 4.2% from 2019. A similar trend was noted in the production of poultry meat which totalled 3,438.1 tonnes in 2020, up by 8.9% from 2019.
The weight of the slaughtered livestock decreased by 7.0% from the year before to a total of 928.4 tonnes.
Concerning fisheries, compared to 2019, the data on landed catch show decreases both in volume and first sale receipts, by 39.4% and 34.4%, respectively. The landed catch stood at 4.9 thousand tonnes, while the receipts reached 14.5 million euros.
The decrease in volume derived mainly from the 55.0% drop on the landed catch of tuna and tuna-like species, despite blackscabbard fish having declined by 4.9% also. Notwithstanding the decrease in the landed catch, tuna and tuna-like species was the most abundant species during 2020, totalling 2,300 tons (47.5% of the overall catch), followed by black scabbardfish, which reached a total of 2,100 tons (43.9%). In terms of first sale receipts, tuna and tuna-like species fell by 48.7%, while black scabbardfish dropped by 14.3%.
The first sale average price of the landed catch (excluding the unloaded fish destined for self-consumption) rose by 9.4% to EUR 3.02 (EUR 2.78 in 2019).
