In 2017
Number of vaccines administered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira decreased; number of physicians, dentists and pharmacists increased
According to the data provided by the Institute of Health Administration and Social Affairs (IA Saúde), 93,429 vaccines of 38 different types were administered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira in 2017, down by 5.1% from the previous year. The number of vaccines administered under the Regional Imunisation Programme was 49,289. Outside this Programme the number of administered vaccines stood at 44,140.
The number of physicians registered in the Guild at December 31st of 2017 was 1,032, up by 6.6% when compared to the corresponding day of 2016 (968 physicians at 31/12/2016). Of that total 55.0% (568) were specialists. The number of physicians per 1,000 inhabitants maintained an upward trend, rising from 3.8 in 2016 to 4.1 in 2017.
In 2017, the Order of Nurses asked its members to update information about the workplace, causing a series break in the information made available in previous years. In 2017, 2,221 nurses were registered in the Guild, which corresponded to 8.7 nurses per 1,000 habitants.
In 2017, the number of pharmacists was 235 (an increase of 6 pharmacists over 2016).
