In the first half of 2015
Passenger movements in air and sea transport increased year-on-year; movement of goods in the regional seaports decreased
According to the data compiled by DREM, passenger transport by bus decreased by 2.2% in the reference period. 8.7 million passengers were counted in the urban lines between January and June 2015 (year-on year change rateof -2.5%) and 4.0 million in the intercity lines (-1.5%).
In air transport, the airports of Madeira and Porto Santo recorded a movement of 1.3 million passengers during the first half of 2015, a 5.1% increase compared to the same period of 2014.
In sea transport, the Ports authority counted eight more cruise ship in the seaport of Autonomous Region of Madeira in the first semester of 2015, when compared to the first six months of previous year (there were a total of 156 of this type of vessels in 2015). The number of transit passengers also increased by 18.2%. The seaport of Funchal received a total of 283,993 transit passengers, the majority of them (88.1%) Europeans. Breaking down by the data by nationality, it should be highlighted that the Germans ranked first during the reference period (104,059, year-on-year change rate of -0.4%), followed by the British (87,103; +22.6%) and the Italians (16,603; +62,9%). An additional remark to the passenger movement in the Madeira – Porto Santo sea line, which went up by 2.8% year-on-year.
Regarding the movement of goods in the seaport of Autonomous Region of Madeira, the figures for the first six months of 2015 show a 6.0% drop for the loaded goods and a 0.7% decrease for unloaded goods, if compared with the corresponding period of 2014.

Vehicle sale registries made by the Vehicle Registration Offices of Madeira in the first half of 2015 rose by 16.2% year-on-year
In the first half of 2015, the Vehicle Registration Offices of Madeira registered the sale of 6,260 vehicles (new and used), 81.8% of which were light passenger vehicles and 16.5% light cargo vehicles. The sale of 108 heavy vehicles (1.7% of the total) was also registered during this period. The number of registries went up by 873 compared to the same period of 2014 (+16.2%).
