In the 3rd quarter of 2015
Movement of passengers in the ports and airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased compared to the corresponding period of 2014, while passenger transport by bus decreased; goods unloaded in the regional seaports also increased
According to the data compiled by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), passenger transport by bus decreased by 1.0% year-on-year in the reference period. Between January and September of 2015, 12.7 million passengers were counted in the urban lines (year-on year change rate of -1.8%) and 6.0 million in the intercity lines (+0.1%).
In air transport, the airports of Madeira and Porto Santo recorded a movement of 860.4 thousand passengers during the 3rdquarter of 2015, a 5.9% increase compared to the same period of 2014.
In sea transport, the Ports authority counted 29 cruise ships in the seaport of Funchal during the 3rd quarter of 2015 (up by 13 over the same quarter of the previous year). The number of transit passengers increased by 137.7%. The seaport of Funchal received a total of 350,605 transit passengers, the majority of them (89.4%) Europeans. Between January and September of 2015, there were more British visiting Madeira during the reference period (124,227, year-on-year change rate of +44.3%), but fewer Germans (116,046;+4.3%) and Italians (22,845; +81,2%). An additional remark to the passenger movement in the Madeira – Porto Santo sea line, which went up by 4.5% year-on-year.
Regarding the movement of goods in Madeira's ports, the statistics for the 3rd quarter of 2015 show a positive trend vis-a-vis the same period of 2014 for both the unloaded (+11.4%) and loaded goods (+8.4%).
In the third quarter of 2015
Number of vehicle sale registries made by the Vehicle Registration Offices of Madeira increased by 6.3% when compared to the corresponding period of the previous year
In the third quarter of 2015, the Vehicle Registration Offices of Madeira registered the sale of 3 285 vehicles (new and used), 88.1% of which were light passenger vehicles and 10.9% light cargo vehicles. The sale of 31 heavy vehicles (0.9% of the total) was also registered during this period. There were 196 registries more than in the corresponding period of 2014 (+6.3%).
Taking in account the first nine month of 2015, the year-on-year change rate in the number of registries was +12.6%.
