In 2015
Movement of passengers in the ports and airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased compared to 2014, while passenger transport by bus decreased; movement of goods in the regional seaports also increased
According to the data compiled by DREM, in 2015, the passenger transport by bus decreased by 1.8% when compared to 2014. In the year of reference, 17.1 million passengers were counted in the urban lines (-2.6%) and 8.1 million in the intercity lines (-0.2%).
In the sector of air transport, the airports of Madeira and Porto Santo recorded a movement of 2.7 million passengers during 2015, a 6.3% increase compared to 2014.
In the field of sea transport, the Ports authority counted 308 cruise ships in the seaport of Funchal during 2015 (up by 25 over the previous year). The number of transit passengers increased by 21.6%. The seaport of Funchal received a total of 574,774 transit passengers, the majority of which (89.1%) Europeans. In 2015 and compared to the prior year, there were more British visiting Madeira (211,525, change rate of +31.6%), but fewer Germans (187,007;+3.4%) and Italians (36,974; +69.2%).
The transport of passengers in the sea line between the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo grew by 6.2%, reaching a total of 267,541 in the year of reference.
Regarding the movement of goods in Madeira's ports, the statistics for 2015 show increases for both loaded (+1.9%) and unloaded goods (+1.6%).
Vehicle sale registries made by the Vehicle Registration Offices of Madeira increased in 2015
In 2015, the Vehicle Registration Offices of Madeira registered the sale of 13,069 vehicles (new and used), 83.8% of which were light passenger vehicles and 14.7% light cargo vehicles. The sale of 196 heavy vehicles (1.5% of the total) was also registered during this period. There were 1 620 registries more than in 2014 (+14.1%).
