Madeira’s economy accelerated slightly
The Regional Indicator of Economic Activity (RIEA) shows that regional economic activity in October 2018 accelerated slightly, after having stabilized its pace of growth in the previous two months.
Although the RIEA is not a substitute for the real GDP growth rate, the two indicators show a significant correlation. Last month, Statistics Portugal released the final results for the Regional Accounts of 2016 and the provisional results for 2017, which confirm that in those years there was economic growth, as suggested by the RIEA.
It should be noted that this indicator is a synthesis instrument whose objective is to facilitate the timely monitoring of the regional economy, in particular as regards to direction and magnitude of fluctuations, and does not present itself as a substitute for other official statistics, namely of annual rate of change of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Monthly Economic Indicators – October 2018
Together with RIEA is published the Monthly Economic Indicators - October 2018, an instrument for monitoring the economic situation, which provides the most recent data on regional economic activity.
