Egg production and landed catch increased while poultry meat and livestock slaughterings decreased

In 2017, the egg production stood at 24.1 million units, increasing by 9.4% from 2016. An opposite trend was noted in the production of poultry meat which totaled 3,346.5 tonnes in 2017, down by 5.6% from 2016.

In 2017, the weight of the slaughtered livestock decreased by 2.0% from the year before.

Concerning fisheries, the data on landed catch show increases in volume by 38.6% and by 40.2% in first sale receipts compared to 2016. The landed catch stood at 8.0 thousand tonnes, the highest value since 2004, while the receipts topped 21.6 million euros, the highest value ever, even deflating the corresponding nominal data with the consumer price index.

The increase in volume was mainly driven by the catch of tuna and tuna-like species (+89.3% in volume and +70.9% in the first sales receipts), which was the most abundant species during 2017.

The first sale average price of the landed catch was EUR 2.71 (EUR 2.68 in 2016).
