In the first half of 2019
Egg production, slaughtered livestock and landed catch registered a year-on-year growth, while poultry meat decreased
In the first six months of 2019, the egg production stood at 9.9 million units, increasing by 23.9% year-on-year.
In the same period, the poultry meat totalled 1,561.2 tonnes, decreasing by 1.9% compared to the same period of 2018.
Between January and June 2019, the weight of the slaughtered livestock reached 404.7 tonnes, rising by 5.5% year-on-year.
The data on landed catch show a 44.8% increase in volume in the first six months of 2019 and a 31.9% increase in first sale receipts, compared to the same period of last year.
This growth was mainly driven by the increase in the catch of tuna and tuna-like species (+71.0% in volume and +63.9% in first sale receipts). The catch of black scabbardfish increased by 12.1% year-on year, and the first sale receipts generated by this species rose by 0.8%.
In the reference period, the mean value of fish landed was €2.88 (€3.16 in the same period of 2018), with the average price for tuna and similar reaching €2.69 (2.81€ in the first half of 2018). In the case of the black scabbardfish the mean value was €3.49 (€3.88 in the first six months of the last year). Please note that these ratios exclude the unloaded fish destined for self-consumption.
