In the 3rd quarter of 2014

Default ratios of non-financial corporations and households showed different trends; Deposits decreased compared to the previous quarter

According to the data provided by the Bank of Portugal, the balance of credit granted to non-financial corporations located in the Autonomous Region of Madeira reached €3.2 billion in the end of the 3rd quarter. The default ratio of this type of corporations stood at 18.5%, 3.8 percentage points (p.p.) higher than in the country.

In the household sector, the balance of credit granted in the end of the reference period amounted to €3.3 billion, with the default ratio on bank loans to households increasing to an historical record of 5.7% (0.8 p.p. higher than in Portugal).

The loans in default generated by non-financial corporations amount to €596.8 million, while the households are responsible for €185.9 million.

Compared to  the previous quarter, the number of borrowers in the households of the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased by 0.2%  to a total of 104,209.

Deposits and deposit like instruments in the local bank establishments reached a total of €5.2 billion in the end of the 3rd quarter, 4.5% lower than a year before and 0.5% lower than at the end of June of 2014.
