In 2024
Vaccination coverage in the Autonomous Region of Madeira ranged from 91.4% to 97.4%
Under the recommended schedule, in 2024, vaccination coverage in children who reached 1 year of age decreased for all types of administered vaccines, ranging from 95.7% (second doses of the vaccine against invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis B) to 97.4% (second doses of the conjugate vaccine against infections by 13 serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae). In this age group, compared with the previous year, the largest decrease occurred in coverage of the vaccine against invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis B (second doses), which fell by 3.3 percentage points (pp). The vaccine against infections by 13 serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae registered a decline of 1.5 pp, while the remaining vaccines, with coverage of 97.1%, decreased by 1.4 pp. In this age group, all vaccines recorded in 2024 the lowest coverage rates since the series began in 2017, although they remained above the 95% threshold associated with herd immunity. The only exception is the conjugate vaccine against infections by 13 serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae (second doses), whose minimum rate in the series occurred in 2022 (97.4%), increasing by 1.5 pp in 2023.
In children who reached 2 years of age in 2024, vaccination coverage ranged from 91.4% to 96.2%. The first doses of the measles vaccine, the mumps vaccine, and the rubella vaccine reached 96.2%, exceeding the 95% target, despite a decrease of 2.2 pp compared with 2023. The fourth doses of the vaccine against invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae, the diphtheria vaccine, the tetanus vaccine, the pertussis vaccine, and the inactivated injectable polio vaccine recorded coverage of 94.6%, below the target, but representing an increase of 0.4 pp compared to the previous year. Coverage for the single-dose vaccine against invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis C (93.6%) and the third dose of the vaccine against invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis B (92.4%) decreased by 4.3 pp compared with 2023. The third dose of the conjugate vaccine against infections by 13 serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae presented the lowest coverage in this group (91.4%), registering the largest decline of 5.0 pp, and marking the first year it fell below the target.
Vaccination coverage in children who reached 6 years of age increased by 0.5 pp compared with 2023 for the second doses of measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines, reaching 95.3%. Coverage for the remaining vaccines remained unchanged, at 94.4%.
