In the 2nd quarter of 2016

Default ratios of  the non-financial corporations and households show differing trends. Bank deposits dropped

According to the data released by the Bank of Portugal, at the end of the 2nd quarter of 2016, the balance of credit granted to non-financial corporations located in the Autonomous Region of Madeira stood at  €2.1 billion. The default ratio of this type of corporations dropped to 21.2%, although remaining  4.7 percentage points (p.p.) above national average.

In the household sector, the balance of credit granted in the end of the reference period amounted to €3.0 billion, with the default ratio on bank loans to households increasing to 6.4% (up by 0.7 p.p. from the previous quarter). In Portugal, the value of this ratio was 5.2%.

The loans in default generated by non-financial corporations amounted to €455.0 million, while the households were responsible for €195.0 million.

Deposits and deposit like instruments in the local bank establishments reached a total of €4.8 billion at the end of the 2nd quarter 2016, down by 7.0% from a year before and down by 0.2% from previous quarter.
