Cinema revenue in the Region increased slightly compared to the previous year, despite a decline in sessions and the number of spectators 

According to provisional data released by the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA), 3 179 cinema sessions were recorded in the Autonomous Region of Madeira during the fourth quarter of 2024, representing a decrease of 3.8% compared to the same period in 2023.

The number of spectators reached 47 653, reflecting a 22.7% increase year-on-year. Ticket revenues totalled 282.7 thousand euros, marking a 30.7% growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

For the year 2024 as a whole, 13 966 cinema sessions were recorded in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, representing a decline of 1.0% compared to 2023. August registered the highest number of sessions, with a total of 1 478.

The number of spectators also declined in 2024, standing at 205 093, which corresponds to a decrease of 4.8% compared to 2023. July recorded the highest number of spectators attending cinema sessions in the Region (36 297).

Conversely, ticket revenues amounted to 1 212.9 thousand euros, representing a slight increase of approximately 6.1 thousand euros (+0.5%) compared to the previous year.
