Passenger movement at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded a year-on-year increase of 14.0%
According to information provided by ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal to the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira handled 522.5 thousand passengers in September 2025, transported on 3 586 commercial aircraft movements. These figures represent year-on-year increases of 14.0% and 17.9%, respectively.
In the month under review, Madeira Airport registered growth both in aircraft movements (3,281; +18.9% compared with September 2024) and in passenger numbers (491.9 thousand; +14.9%). Porto Santo Airport also recorded increases, though of lesser magnitude, in aircraft movements (305; +8.2% compared to the same period of 2024) and in passenger numbers (30.6 thousand; +1.0%).
During the first nine months of 2025, aircraft movements and passenger movements increased by 14.4% and 13.1%, respectively, compared with the same period of the previous year.

In September of 2025, each aircraft (considering both landings and take-offs) carried on average around 150 passengers at Madeira Airport (155 in September 2024), while at Porto Santo Airport the corresponding figure was 100 passengers (107 in the same period of 2024).
In that month, passenger movement at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira rose by 20.2% in international traffic (290.8 thousand passengers) and by 7.1% in domestic traffic (231.7 thousand passengers).
At Madeira Airport, international traffic (58.5%) predominated over domestic traffic (41.5% of the total). At Porto Santo Airport, domestic traffic represented the majority (89.7% of the total), showing an even greater predominance than in the same period of 2024 (86.1% of the total).
In the month under review, regular flights accounted for 92.1% of total aircraft movements and 94.5% of total passengers handled at the airports of the Region (93.2% and 95.0%, respectively, in September 2024).
In September 2025, the occupancy of aircraft movements at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira was approximately 86.1%, with Madeira Airport reaching 86.4% and Porto Santo Airport reaching 81.5%. In the previous year, the occupancy rate was higher for both airports combined (88.5%) and for Madeira Airport (89.1%), while lower at Porto Santo Airport (80.8%).
Between January and September 2025, the total number of passengers embarking and disembarking at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (excluding those in transit) reached 4 342.8 thousand. Of this total, 44.1% corresponded to traffic exclusively between airports located within national territory, including domestic and internal connections, while 55.9% was international traffic. Within the latter, the United Kingdom (26.8%) and Germany (20.1%) were the main countries of origin and destination of international flights to and from the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. France ranked third (11.0%), followed by Poland (9.4%).
