In 2015
Commercialisation of “Madeira” Wine increased in value but dropped in volume
According to data provided by the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft Institute, P.I., the commercialisation of “Madeira” wine in 2015 stood at 3.3 million litres, generating first sale receipts of 18.0 million euros. Compared to 2014, the quantities sold decreased by 1.3% while the sales value grew by 0.5%.
Exports to Sweden recorded noticeable increases of 14.6% in the quantities sold and 14.1% in first sale receipts. The exports to the United States decreased 25.6% in volume and 7.1% in receipts. The main external market – France – revealed positive change rates (+11.4% in the quantities sold and +14.0% in value). Sales to mainland Portugal decreased in volume (-1.8%) but increased in value (+9.1%), while the sales made in the Autonomous Region of Madeira showed a noticeable drop (-16.2% in both volume and value).
Around three quarters of the commercialized wine was sold in bottles at the average price of €6.28 per litre, while the remaining 24.7% consisted of bulk wine sold at €2.75 per litre.
Commercialisation of embroideries, tapestries and furnishing articles increased in 2015
In 2015, the commercialisation of embroideries, tapestries and furnishing articles generated 953.4 thousand euros of first sale receipts, increasing by 12.9% compared to 2014. In 2015, more than half of the sales were directed to the external market, with the USA and the United Kingdom standing at the top of the list of importing countries of this type of goods.
